PPC click fraud is a most concerning subject related to Google AdWords, Bing Ads and other PPC advertising platforms.
As Google/Bing efforts in click fraud detection materialised in more performant detection algorithms, also click fraudsters developed new ways of getting undetected. Fortunately, AdWords and also BingAds are allowing advertisers to block click fraudsters by excluding their IP addresses from certain campaigns and in this way, the click fraud effects would be limited.
Also, more than allowing access to an interface, Google AdWords offers the option of blocking fraudulent IP's through API, which means that using specialised applications, a person/I.P. address that is making fraudulent clicks can be stopped in less than a minute after detection.
And YES, Xiona Tracker is able to detect fraudulent IP addresses and to automatically BLOCK them. And more than that, we are offering our clients the posibility of choosing the maximum number of clicks allowed from a speciffic I.P. address - all of thoe options can be made just after signing in and adding your adwords profile.
Advantages are obvious:
- no need of staying alert and check the data multiple times a day (or night)
- immediate blocking of an IP address
- you receive reports related to the blocking of IP addresses
To understand how automatic blocking works, I will write an example:
Imagine that you have a running campaign targeting "women shoes", a keyword with a cost of 1$/click.
Now, your competitor will start making search queries just to inflict cost on your campaign, and this competitor will only click 4 times a day, 3 times a week.
CASE 1: If you already use Xiona tracking without the "Auto Block IP" feature and are checking data once a week, you will probably get 12 clicks after discovering and blocking the fraudulent IP.
CASE 2: If you are also using "Auto Block IP" feature, and set a 2 click limit for each IP, then the inflicted loses would only be 2$, as our software will detect de fraud and automatically bloc the fraudulent IP address.
Also, please keep in mind that we detect that certain IP address, we are sending that IP through API in Google AdWords excluded IP list within Campaign settings for all your active campaigns in that account, but we cannot guarantee that Google will not show your ads anymore to that certain IP. Still - you will be able to check the date when we excluded a fraudulent IP, and if there are going to be click activity from an excluded IP, we will report it again in the "Suspect IP" area, and you will be able to send a notification through Google Adwords CLick Quality form.
